New Report Assesses Road-Stream Crossings and Aquatic Connectivity in the Matawan Creek Subwatershed

The NY-NJ Harbor & Estuary Program and the Hudson River Foundation have published a new report examining how dams, culverts, and bridges affect aquatic connectivity in two Raritan Bayshore subwatersheds in New Jersey.
Authored by Associate Scientist Laura Logozzo, Ph.D., the report assesses 82 road-stream crossings based on aquatic connectivity, vulnerability to storms, and infrastructure condition to help partners identify priority restoration opportunities and advance climate- and connectivity-friendly improvements. It also recommends seven priority restoration projects, including two crossings which are severe barriers for migratory fish, blocking passage for diadromous fish to the entire Matawan Creek west subwatershed and almost the entirety of Gravelly Brook.
